All University Students, And Lecturers Should Pay Attention, As ASUU Takes A Decision On Resumption

If there is one manor issue the country is facing currently, it is the resumption of schools amidst the coronavirus.

A few days ago, the Minister of Education Adamu Adamu came out to say that the ministry and the federal government does not have any plans to resume schools yet as they are still setting up guidelines for resumptions, mot especially for final year students of primary and secondary schools.

The government, however, did not include final year students of tertiary institutions.

Well, the latest update now is that the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has declared that even if the FG gives clearance on the resumption of schools, universities won't resume.

This directive was made known by the president of ASUU Biodun Ogunyemi in a recent interview with media outlet PREMIUM TIMES.

According to Biodun Ogunyemi, the union has outstanding issues with the federal government.

You'll recall that few days after the government ordered the closure of schools in March, the union who had earlier embarked on a 2-weeks warning strike, evolved into an indefinite strike.

This current strike is due to the IPPIS issue the union has with the FG over payment of its member's salary.

So in general, it means that even if the government gives a go-ahead for schools to re-open, students of tertiary institutions will still remain at home.

Unless the government resolves its pending issue with ASUU, only then can universities be declared open.

So, my dear university students, it looks like we'll be staying at home for a little longer.

Please make hay while the sun shines. Endeavor to learn new skills and better yourself whilst we wait upon the FG and ASUU.
